If you've been familiar with the old Planet illogica, you may have noticed that some things have changed-- okay a lot of things. One particular thing is the way the blogs work. Each Pi resident can decide to blog, whenever.

Blogs

Featured Pi News
Pi residents' are encouraged to blog without boundaries and their blog entries may now be featured under the  "Planet News" section! Pi staff members can feature blog entries from any Pi resident; when featured, users will have their blog entry seen by everyone who visits the news sections on Pi (including user profiles). Getting featured is a great way to get traffic to your profile and to inform others of whatever you've blogged about. So far there hasn't been a set criteria for the types of entries that get featured.

Featured Main Image
To make things easier, we have an option for you to upload a "Featured Main Image". The featured main image will be the one chosen to represent your blog sitewide. This means that the featured image will be the little picture that displays alongside your blog entry whenever there is a picture required; it is most commonly seen next to the user activity feed (below your featured portfolio on your profile) and the blog sections of Planet illogica. The featured image will be resized (don't worry, we never stretch or distort your uploads) accordingly, then displayed at the upper left hand corner of the blog entry, under the author's information. In this case, my "featured Main Image" is the picture of the bottle of glue, and a pair of scissors.

Tags
Tags are a cool way for people to find your blog entry. When searching the site, others may find your entry under what you tag it as and find more entries and items based upon the same tag. To enter multiple tags, either hit "enter" or type in a comma after each tag.

Uploading Images to Bodies of Text/ Text Editor

So what happens when you want to upload more than one photo or graphic? Planet illogica an image uploader that allows you to upload images to bodies of text, such as the one you see when creating a blog entry.

First click the icon of an image at the top of your text editor's toolbar.

Click the Image button to start uploading your own images

A pop up will appear. This pop up is quite useful for quick image styling after you've uploaded your image.

The "pop up" I refer to

The box with the "Preview" will show you what your image will look like and how the text will wrap around it, based upon your settings on the left of it.

Click the "Browse Server" button to open up a new small window. This is your image uploader, and it contains all of the images that you've used before within the text editor; no one has access to this but you. Near the top of the new window you should see your toolbar. This toolbar will allow you to upload, resize and delete your images.

The image uploader

Once you've uploaded your image, you may either resize it within the image uploader or just click the "Insert file" button to use the image you've just uploaded. Double clicking the file name in the image uploader will also "insert file".

Now you're back in the popup! Here, you can decide if you want the text to wrap around the image by giving it a left-align, modifying the spacing between the words and the image, give the image a border, writing alternate text (alternate text are the words that appear after you hover over the image) and/or further resizing of the image. When you're happy with the modifications, click "OK" and your image will appear in your text editor!

On a side note, a lot of the bodies of text are resizable based on your preference. You can drag to stretch or shrink your text box. Look for the 3 lines at the bottom right corner of a box or the 3 lines  at the center bottom of the box to try!
